Riot Reveals League of Legend Loot Box Drop Rates
Riot Reveals League of Legend Loot Box Drop Rates
Loot boxes are a big part of LoL, but in the past, their drop rates have largely been a mystery. That changed last week when Riot made the preemptive decision to reveal League of Legend loot box drop rates.
The past year has been full of lawsuits and threats revolving around loot boxes, their drop rates and whether or not they should constitute gambling. For their part, Riot has managed to keep out of most of those conversations. Whether it’s because League of Legends does loot boxes right or because everyone else just does the much worse, is up for debate.
Perhaps the most important factor is that Riot is generally well-liked by its fans and the gaming and esports communities as a whole. While companies like EA and Blizzard suffer from constant PR battles, Riot has managed to establish itself as a respectable company who can nearly always be counted on to do what’s right by their fans.
Now Riot has taken another step towards transparency by creating a detailed Hextech Crafting Guide that reveals all of the drop percentages for League of Legend loot boxes.
WHAT’S IN A HEXTECH CHEST? | |
---|---|
Content Type | % of Openings |
Skin Shard | 50% |
Champion Shard | 25% |
Emote Permanent | 10% |
Ward Skin Shard + 150 Bonus Orange Essence | 11.5% |
Summoner Icon Shard + 150 Bonus Orange Essence | 3.5% |
BONUS DROPS | |
Gemstone | 3.6% |
Bonus Chest + Key | 10% |
Drop rates aren’t the only things in the Hextech Crafting Guide though. Riot also revealed some details that you may or may not have known. For instance, “Outside of Hextech exclusive skins, all skins in the system have the same odds of dropping. Any given ultimate skin is just as likely to drop as a cheaper skin.” On top of that, Hextech chests now only drop shards for champions worth 4,800 BE or more, which means gone are the days of having 10 useless Ashe shards.
Riot also provided further clarification for why you may not be recieving boxes when you expect to. For instance, there are weekly and monthly chest drop limits. Plus, bad behavior in-game can cause you to “be locked out of earning chests and keys from playing games for a duration of time.”
A few months ago, Riot instituted a big change to their Hextech Crafting System that many fans were less than enthralled with. It did away with IP entirely and took away the ability for players to trade in multiple player shards for permanents.
The new LoL loot system is far from perfect, but this added transparency from Riot at least helps to bring clarity to some of the questions that many players have had.
You can read more about about League of Legend loot box drop rates and other new details in the Hextech Crafting Guide.
