For trainers still interested in Pokemon Go, a new update is on the way that will add brand new content guaranteed to spice up your journey.

On Monday, Niantic revealed that users could expect versions 1.61.1 and 0.91.1, for iOS and Android respectively, to roll out by the end of the month. For iOS users, be sure your phone is updated to iOS 11 by February 28, as older operating systems will no longer be compatible with the new update.

The latest update fixes some minor in-game issues and will reformat the News section so that it hopefully becomes easier to read. More importantly, it will also allow trainers to search for “Shiny Pokemon” in their Pokedex.

A source on the subreddit Silph Road was able to data mine the update and uncover additional details. U/dronpes discovered that the Pokedex will soon have special display buttons for Pokemon that have multiple forms, such as Deoxys and Castform, and changes will be made to the energy bar system that is used during combat.

There are some major additions coming to this update as well, specifically the new quest systems. Two types of quests have been found thus far, Challenge Quests and Story Quests. Each could suggest that Pokemon Go is getting a story mode, but neither are a guarantee.  

Many have speculated that Professor Willow and some new human characters will play a large role in these quests, based mostly on some character expressions for humans that have been discovered. Another possibility is that the Team Leaders may be involved in the quests in some way, and a rivalry between the three teams could spark. Or maybe the quests and this update will simply give trainers a chance to become the very best, like no one ever was!
