Dr. DisRespect Crashes Twitch With His Return to Streaming

by | Feb 5, 2018 | Livestreaming, News, News Section, Videogames

He’s back and breaking stuff already. The infamous Dr. DisRespect made his return on Monday and crashed Twitch in doing so.

DisRespect recently announced that he’d be returning to the platform at 11 am pst on February 5, after a nearly two month absence. As it turns out, a lot of people were anxiously awaiting his return. So many in fact, that Twitch crashed within minutes of him going live. Some people reportedly had access to the site and possibly even DisRespect’s stream, but for the majority of people, Twitch was down.

Less than ten minutes after his purported start time, DisRespect tweeted out this.

Twitch is back up and running now and Dr. DisRespect is streaming to over 350,000 viewers as I write this. While we don’t yet know his official peak, it’s safe to say that it will at least come close to the records that Tyler1 set last month in his long-awaited return to the streaming platform.

Of course, there’s a pretty big difference between Tyler1 and DisRespect.

DisRespect left the streaming platform after admitting in a stream that he cheated on his wife. According to him, he was taking the time off to focus on things other than streaming, presumably his marriage.

Even among the often toxic streaming community, DisRespect is a polarizing figure. His audience tends to skew quite young and there are a lot of streamers and gamers who don’t care for his particular brand of entertainment.

None the less, Disrespect is one of the biggest names on Twitch and in streaming in general. It will be interesting to see if his numbers sustain and if he ultimately sees any net increase or decrease as a result of his short absence.
