The Overwatch Lunar Event Is Returning Next Week
The Overwatch lunar event is returning on February 8th and we’re here to explain what that actually means.
The event is a celebration of the Lunar New Year, also known as the Chinese New Year. Last year was the Year of the Cock Rooster for the Chinese Zodiac and Overwatch got a nifty ‘Capture the Rooster’ mode to reflect that. 2018 is the Year of the Dog, and that already has us a million times more excited.
? Wishing you prosperity in the Year of the Dog! ?

What kind of event should we expect this time around? Who knows, but if Blizzard knows what’s good for them, Orisa’s new puppy will somehow be involved.
If this year’s Lunar Even is anything like last years, we should also see plenty of new skins and emotes. Most of last year’s new looks were inspired by the old Chinese tale, Journey to the West, and we can probably expect a new central theme for this year.
One thing Overwatch does particularly well is special events like these. Last year’s Lunar Event was one of the biggest in the game’s short history. With the game and its fanbase growing tremendously since then, it’s likely that this years event will be bigger than ever before.
