My Hero Academia: One’s Justice Game Coming to America

Anime fans are getting spoiled by Japan this year. First came the announcement that the action-adventure One Piece game would be coming to American shores. Now, a second game based off the action anime My Hero Academia is also coming to America. While little is known about My Hero Academia: One’s Justice, it is the first major release for the incredibly popular series.

My Hero Academia premiered in 2014 in the popular Weekly Shonen Jump, an anthology which publishes all the most popular action/adventure mangas in one place. This last weekend was also the annual Jump Festa, a celebration that shows off all things new and upcoming for the series inside. Here we got to see actual gameplay from My Hero Academia: One’s Justice during a livestream (hence the poor quality). While Namco Bandai has been reluctant to give details about the game, it looks fairly obvious that it will be another arena fighter, a genre extremely popular for animes.

Japanese arena fighters are most common among action animes, typically because they lend themselves so well to the series. My Hero Academia features a world where everyone is born with a Quirk, a power unique to just them. This has in turn created a world full of super heroes and super villains, and one where students can go to school in order to become super heroes. This makes it the perfect premise for an arena fighter like the new Dragon Ball Fighter Z. With a huge cast of heroes and villains, all with their own super powers and abilities, One’s Justice will fit perfectly with the arena fighter genre, especially with fully destructible environments.

Unfortunately, fans will have to wait until sometime in 2018 for more details, including the exact release date. No information has been given about different game modes, unlockables, or even which characters will be featured in the game. Namco Bandai has announced that the game will be released on all major platforms, so we’ve got that going for us at least, which is nice.
