Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds’ Arrests and Fines Cheaters $5.1 Million

PUBG Corp. has announced on a recent Steam blog that they have stepped up their efforts to remove cheating from Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds. Without getting into specifics, they state that they have increased “anti-cheat solutions” and improved “security measures.” In support of that statement, they have also arrested 15 figures central to the cheating in PUBG and fined them collectively $5.1 million. The Chinese authorities stated specifically why these figures were so central to cheating within PUBG.

“15 major suspects… were arrested for developing hack programs, hosting marketplaces for hack programs, and brokering transactions… Some hack programs that are being distributed… include a Huigezi Trojan horse.”

PUBG Corp. is hoping that the dissemination and distribution of PUBG cheats will at least be slowed down by the removal of these central figures. Plus, the massive fine levied against them serves as a warning sign to other cheaters, just as the film industry did when it went after pirates of major motion pictures.

PUBG Corp. was also quick to point out that some of these hacks and cheating programs included viruses designed to steal information from PCs or to gain control of them, which should further convince some cheaters to avoid the use of such programs.

PUBG Cheating

PUBG cheats can be found from basic Google searches.

While the company has been doing their best to address the cheaters within PUBG, the issue has so far been unresolved. PUBG has amassed over 2 million bans across its existence, and at one point in time, 10% of the total population of the game were engaged in cheating, giving PUBG perhaps the worst cheating in gaming history.

PUBG has been facing an uphill battle as Fortnite slowly caught up and then surpassed PUBG in popularity. Ever since, streamers have been jumping ship from the title and switching to Fortnite, especially as Ninja continues to break streaming records. PUBG has been pushing back hard in recent weeks, first with the introduction of a new map – one similar to Fortnite’s aesthetic – as well as their recent tournament announcement.

If PUBG can eliminate the cheating plaguing their game, they just might be able to compete with Fortnite. Considering recent efforts, it seems PUBG Corp. knows that as well.
