New Map Update to PUBG is Savage

PUBG and Fortnite have been chasing each other’s tails since the beginning. The two rivals have been dominating the online battle royale genre and the competition for users has never been higher.

Just last week, PUBG debuted a brand new map called Savage. The new map was open for testing from April 2nd and closed on April 5th at 4 am PDT. A second round of testing will occur at a later date, but right now, no specific times have been listed.

Since the testing started, critics from across the web have been showering Savage with praise. It’s different from the other PUBG maps in a couple major ways.

First of all, Savage is considerably smaller than the previous maps, but there is still a lot of variety to the terrain that makes getting around on both land and water a bit of a challenge. The layout of the map also allows for more planned out fighting.

On top of that, it has a distinct lush jungle aesthetic to it. It was mentioned that the PUBG Art Team traveled to jungles in Southeast Asia to get inspiration for the new map, and it really shows in their attention to detail

Now for the inevitable Fortnite comparison. Right off the bat, you can spot similarities in the two games’ maps. Beyond their general shape and size, certain aspects of the map and its train might seem a little familiar to Fortnite players. Of course, this is only one of several maps for PUBG and that distinction alone sets the two games apart quite a bit.

It isn’t clear when Savage will leave the testing phase, but it was announced this week that the Miramar map would finally be coming to Xbox in May, nearly five months after it debuted on PC.
