This Weeks Headlines

Are Twitch and Epic Games Pulling Ninja’s Strings?

PUBG Corp is suing multiple battle royale games that they see as mere clones of PUBG. And before we get any further, no, Fortnite isn’t one of the games.

The games named in the suit are both mobile titles and are both incredibly similar to PUBG in a myriad of ways. Knives Out and Rules of Survival, both published by the Chinese company NetEase, are the two games named in the suit. Both game’s graphics, gameplay, map design, character design, weaponry and more look and feel very similar to PUBG. However, both games did launch on mobile before PUBG

Loot boxes may have become a staple of nearly all gaming, but that doesn’t mean that they’ve gained universal acceptance. Earlier this month, Middle Earth ditched the contentious system entirely, as it was always looked at with varying levels of disdain for being included in a single-player game.

That being said, no developer or publisher has ever been acted upon by a government for using loot boxes, until now. Based off what Korea has called ‘misleading practices’, Nexon will be fined $888,000 USD.

Popular Twitch streamer Jaryd “Summit1g” Lazar, stirred up quite a controversy when he invited YouTube’s Jake Paul to a stream of Fortnite. The steam itself didn’t contain anything controversial, but fans of Summit1g were not happy to see Jake Paul. Many of his fans criticized or chose to unfollow Summit1g for having the Youtuber on his stream.

Summit1g not only defended Jake Paul, but he responded to his fans’ complaints by lashing out at them. Or as the eloquent Jake Paul would say, he “Dabbed on ’em haters!”

Of course, this only escalated things even further and even more fans turned on Summit1g, not because they were upset at Jake Paul’s presence, but because they were turned off by Summit1g’s arrogant behavior.

The King has lost his crown. Billy Mitchell, the infamous and former record-holder ofDonkey Kong, has had his gaming records striken from the books by Twin Galaxies.

When it comes to records in games, Twin Galaxies is the end-all be-all. Their decision is the one that truly matters and according to them, Billy Mitchell cheated.

It all started with a dispute from Jeremy Young. Young claimed that “not only can original Donkey Kong arcade hardware not produce the board transition images shown in the recordings [of Mitchell’s record-breaking games], but that these transitions were actually generated through the use of MAME,” a software emulation program that doesn’t qualify as an original game according to Twin Galaxies’ bylaws.

SteamSpy has always been a valuable resource for discovering how well a title is performing across the Steam landscape. It can show things like what games are trending (showing upticks in purchases or gameplay time), what the top played game is by time, or even stats across all of Steam regarding total playtime or purchases. However, following a recent Steam privacy update, SteamSpy will most likely have to shut down.

A player for the OWL’s Boston Uprising, DreamKazper, has recently been fired from his team. He was first suspended indefinitely by the OWL following allegations made against him of misconduct. However, once a number of screencaps of conversations with a 14 year old fan came to light, it became obvious that DreamKazper was soliciting illegal actions.

The Best Thing on the Internet, This Week

First, Clutch Gaming and Echo Fox squared off for third place, then 100 Thieves duked it out with Team Liquid to see who would stand as the best team in North America. While both matchups were hard fought, both still ended in 3-0 sweeps. Oddly enough, both teams also played heavily around their jungler, and it was these players which were the deciding factors in the matches.

Above all else, Doublelift shined. After suffering an unimaginable tragedy just days before, the Team Liquid ADC played like a champion. It was an emotional win for him and his teammates and even if you aren’t a fan, it felt good to see TL pull it off in the face of everything.
