The electric, talking, crime fighting Detective Pikachu has been the envy of western Pokemon fans since the game launched in Japan in late 2016. 

Detective Pikachu follows the story of a hardened Pikachu who wears a cool hat and solves crimes, and that’s all you really need to know about it. Also that his catchphrase is “A bolt of brilliance!”

Remember how Pokemon Snap! was a totally awesome, but completely random Pokemon game? Well Detective Pikachu is the same thing, with a completely different premise. It was unsurprisingly a massive hit in Japan; so much so that they’re making it into a live action movie starring Deadpool Ryan Reynolds as Pikachu. (By the way, it’s definitely not going to be an ‘adult’ movie like Deadpool, but it would be incredible if it was). 

The game Detective Pikachu isn’t the only thing coming to North America and Europe, we’re also getting a jumbo-sized amiibo of Detective Pikachu that’s almost twice as large as the original Pikachu amiibo. According to Nintendo, the Detective Pikachu amiibo will “allow players to view all the Pika Prompts from chapters they have completed, including ones they missed finding earlier.” 

Detective Pikachu on the Nintendo 3DS will release to European and North American audiences on March 23rd.
