League of Legends Worst Troll, Tyler1, Has Been Unbanned

Tyler1, the most famous troll in the history of League of Legends – and likely the most famous troll of all time – has officially been unbanned from League of Legends. Today marks his first day back to streaming League of Legends, which will undoubtedly see tens of thousands of fans flocking to see what he does.

Tyler1 Twitter

The collective streaming and League of Legends community crapped themselves as Tyler1 announced on Twitter that he was unbanned from League of Legends. The announcement came after Tyler1 had spent nearly two years banned from the game. In that time, Tyler1 went from an underground success to a legend. He coined some of the most popular terms the game has seen, such as ‘running it down mid,’ and branded himself as a kind of masochistic messiah for his viewers. Part of his biggest appeal was in his willingness to sacrifice his own rank purely for the entertainment of his community.

It should also be mentioned that though Tyler1 often intentionally threw games and mercilessly harassed teammates and opponents alike, he was also a Challenger ranked player, which helped feed into his appeal as a streamer. Many fans of Tyler1 undoubtedly joined the bandwagon after he had been banned, joining his followers for the appeal to the legendary status of the most hated troll, and his viewership numbers seem to support this. It was his fame after being banned that helped to bring the numbers for his own tournament, the Tyler1 Challenger Series, up to nearly the level of views that NA LCS matches get.

It wasn’t just fans that were drawn to Tyler1 though. Because of the near rabid and inescapable size of Tyler1’s popularity, nearly every other streamer of League of Legends was often asked if they too supported unbanning Tyler1 (commonly called ‘free Tyler1’). Due to his popularity, a ripple effect occurred where even other streamers, some with more viewers than Tyler1 ever had, supported his cause and reinstatement. That said, his unbanning was immediately spammed across every stream, every forum, and every inch of the internet.

It’s impossible to know just how Tyler1 will respond to his unbanning now that the expectation is so high for his status. At the end of the day, he is a streamer just like any other. His biggest appeal was that he was the badboy of League of Legends. By coming back and following their rules, he will undoubtedly lose some of his status, but the question remains whether or not Tyler1 can afford to keep living off his fame as a troll, or if he will finally retire his trolling ways and return to the life of a traditional streamer.
