Twitch Creates Reality Show Aimed at Helping Streamers

Twitch is continuing to broaden their scope by creating a new reality show, Stream On, just for content creators. Following this year’s Twitchcon and the slew of tools put in to help streamers grow and measure their audiences, Twitch has been taking steps to try and help their creators. This new reality show hopes to keep that trend going.

Stream On

The announcement made by Twitch encourages any of their Twitch partners to audition for Stream on, which will premier in March.  The show will feature a variety of challenges designed to showcase a streamers talents in appealing to and engaging with audiences. Twitch will also have a panel that will judge and evaluate the contestants while the audience will have the right to vote certain contestants off.

Though the show is open to anyone who has reached the status of Twitch partner, Twitch was quick to say that it is likely a pick will go to streamers with smaller audiences rather than established streamers with huge presences. Even the prize of $5,000 a month for a year is designed to replicate steady income to ease a smaller streamer into streaming as a full-time job. The purpose, Twitch reiterates, is to gain additional exposure for struggling streamers. So for any fans hoping to see a variation of Streamer Showdown with only big name streamers, this will be a disappointment.

2018 is promising to be a year even more focused than 2017 on growing and supporting a slew of content creators. We’ll have to wait and see if Twitch slips in one all-star to the Stream On roster or what kind of guest personalities may show up, but for now, they seem committed to trying to help the underdog.
