Agony to Release Unrated Version After Backlash
Agony released just a short time ago, but in that span of time, the game has been severely criticized. The heaviest criticism has come from Kickstarter backers and fans that were under the impression the game would be an erotic and violent journey through hell. While the game keeps much of this intact, the heavy censoring of the final version of the game has ruined what many fans were looking for. The team behind Agony, Madmind, has now announced that they have an answer to that – they will rerelease the game themselves.
“It is with a great pleasure that we want to inform you we have found a way to publish the unrated version of Agony!
Agony Unrated will be a separate title produced and published by Madmind Studio and without the involvement of any publishers. It features additional content and changes suggested by you – our community – as nothing is more valuable to us than you.”
The biggest news for backers and fans is that Agony Unrated will be available to those that already purchased the original with “the biggest discount possible on that platform – 99% – or released as a free DLC.” That means that Madmind is definitely doing everything they can to fix what fans were angry about the most.
While some critics have gone after Agony for its technical issues and uninspired gameplay, fans haven’t been so critical. The vast majority of gamers were simply angry that the game was not as gory or explicit as it was said to be. The technical issues were a concern, and many fans did point out that some levels were too dark, and some sections too difficult. However, fans weren’t overly concerned with any of those factors. The biggest issue was simply that they wanted a truly explicit, disturbing game.
This news follows rather closely from the announcement that the Steam Store is changing its content policy. The changes to the Steam Store may seem irrelevant, but if Madmind had had any fears that Steam might dislike the full graphic content of their game, those can be discarded. From now on, as long as a game doesn’t break any laws, it will be allowed. That means that rape, infanticide, and all the other slash and gore of Agony Unrated is likely to be admitted without any problems whatsoever.
Madmind has announced that Agony Unrated will have all the following additional content:
- Additional sounds in the game and the cutscenes.
- Additional erotic animations for characters in the backgrounds.
- High resolution textures and models – without any censorship.
- All the scenes that have been removed from the standard version of Agony.
- Agony Mode unlocked from the beginning.
- Additional content for Agony Mode (Setting – The Forest, Boss Fight – Baphomet).
- Succubus Mode unlocked from the beginning.
- Additional animations for Succubus Mode.
Agony Unrated will be available in around October, with patches being rolled out continuously to solve technical issues.
