Overwatch Teams and Dates Finalized for Inaugural Season

A Philadelphia based team, owned partially by Comcast, as well as Team EnVyUs and OpTic Gaming, representing the cities of Dallas and Houston, are the final three teams to join the Overwatch League. This brings the grand total of teams to twelve, making it one of the larger single esports leagues around.

Although teams will be representing cities from all over the world, including Shanghai and Seoul, all games will be played in Burbank, California at Blizzard’s brand new venue, Blizzard Arena Los Angeles. The preseason will kickoff December 6 with a few exhibition games. Then the regular season will get underway on January 10. It’ll run through the month of June with the season finales slated for July 2018.

Nintendo Stock At A Nine Year High Thanks To Switch Sales

Nintendo’s stock price has been trending up ever since the Switch rumors began swirling around in early 2015. Thanks to positive sales and strong upside potential, Credit Suisse, one of the world’s leading financial services company, recently upgraded Nintendo’s outlook from ‘neutral’ to ‘outperform.’ Atul Goyal, an analyst from the global investment banking firm Jefferies, has also upgraded Nintendo’s stock to a buy. The analyst cited Rockstar’s interest in the Switch as a primary reason for his optimism.

On top of elevating the outlook for Nintendo, Suisse also updated their projected sales numbers. Previously, Suisse foresaw the Switch selling 70 million units over its lifetime. Now they’ve nearly doubled that number, estimating that 130 millions Switch units will be sold through 2022.

Final Fantasy XV Passes 6.5 Million Units Sold

This may be the biggest news for Final Fantasy and Square Enix in a very long time. The latest installment in the Final Fantasy series has broken 6.5 million in units sold without even entering into the PC market, and according to director Hajime Tabata, that’s just the beginning.

Director Hajime Tabata put a lot of effort into this game, even going so far as to call it the “last chance” the series might get, but it must have exceeded even his expectations. The game has been receiving good reviews from both fans and critics, both of whom have managed to overlook the game’s rocky first impressions.  

Valve Diving Back Into China With CS:GO Release

Valve has partnered with China’s Perfect World to bring CS:GO to Chinese gamers. The game has long been a powerhouse in the esports sphere, but strict Chinese censorship laws have kept it from the world’s most populous country for years. Of course, there have been ways for Chinese gamers to get their hands on the game, but its never had dedicated Chinese support or servers like it does now. 

The game is releasing as technically free when you sign up for a CS:GO account through Perfect World, but there is a catch. Chinese players will have to “complete a quick identity verification process” in order to download the client. According to the Esports Observer, this means the game will be tied to a player’s Personal Identification number, phone number and banking account number. That means if you get caught cheating, your credit rating could potentially take a big hit. And of course that’s on top of the permanent ban you’ll receive.
