Sony recently announced a new PlayStation VR bundle that includes both the headset and the PlayStation Camera for $399 USD.

Sony also announced that it will be dropping the price of its PlayStation VR Worlds bundle. The ‘Worlds’ bundle was previously priced at $499, but as of Sept. 1st, the price will be $50 dollars cheaper at $449.

The new PSVR bundle, the one including both the headset and the camera, is essentially replacing the old base bundle, which included only the headset. The fact that the necessary camera was sold separately to begin with was a sticking point that baffled both consumers and analysts.

The price drop also keeps PSVR competitive with the other major VR headsets on the market. As it stands, the Oculus Rift is sitting at $499 after a major price cut last month. The Vive also saw a considerable price cut not long ago when HTC lowered the price to $599. Of course, both the Rift and Vive are superior pieces of technology, but they come with much higher barriers to entry.

PlayStation owners have been adopting PSVR at a somewhat expected pace. Sony revealed earlier this Summer that over a million headsets had been sold alongside over 5 million games. Plus, Sony is the only company offering legitimate VR opportunities to console gamers, which might explain the timing of this announcement.

The announcement comes just a week after pre-orders went up for the new Xbox One X. Sony just might be hoping that a cheaper PSVR could lure would-be One X owners away from Microsoft.

Both PSVR bundles will go on sale September 1st.
