YouTube Red started producing original series in early 2016, but it has gone under most gamers radar because very little of it is about gaming and most of it just isn’t very good. Both of these are odd because gaming is the second most popular category on YouTube – it is right behind music – and YouTube has more than enough money to hire on legitimate, quality talent.

That’s why Good Game caught our eyes.

Good Game has three things going for it right off the bat. The first is that the group behind it – the Game Grumps – feel like authentic gamers. In addition to running a Let’s Play channel, they constantly plug content they enjoy – such as Shovel Knight ­– and even made an album parodying video games. The point is – if someone is going to be in a series that appeals to gamers, we are glad it’s them (full disclosure – we like these guys, if you haven’t noticed from our Youtube page).

The concept for Good Game isn’t bad either. Two friends (the Game Grumps) decide to try and climb the rungs of the eSport world and win the world championship. If it doesn’t fall into the usual tropes of mocking ‘anti-social’ gamers, then the content actually looks promising. Plus, the executive produce is Dan Harmon, creator of Rick and Morty, which is something almost anyone can get behind.
