Video Games Are To Blame for Mass Shootings

Video games are to blame for mass shootings. That’s the notion being thrown about by some of the highest officials in the United States.

I know what you’re thinking, “What an asinine thing to say. Can anybody really be that stupid and uninformed? Should people this ignorant really be serving at any level of government, let alone at the top?”

But think about it, do you really think it’s a good idea for a young impressionable child to be shooting hookers in the face in GTA V? No. We need some sort of rating system that could help people identify games that were appropriate for mature audiences only.

If only there was some sort of entertainment software rating board that could help us out with this. Unfortunately, as the president of the United States has pointed out, this is something the gaming industry is lacking.

I’d take things a step further and say that video games should be specifically labeled with why they’re rated a certain way. Something along the lines of stating that a game was rated M for violence and nudity. Something like that.

And this might sound insane, but I’d also argue that kids under the age of 17 shouldn’t even be aloud to purchase a game that was intended for mature audiences without some sort of parent or guardian present.

Surely, if we kept video games out of the hands of impressionable children, then never again would anyone grow up to be a violent criminal.

Obviously taking away or limiting tools of violence is out of the question. We shouldn’t even consider something like that while kids under the influence of video games are the real threat to society.

Now, you might be starting to think that restricting the sales of video games to young people isn’t such a bad idea. Unfortunately, it’s probably never going to happen.

You see, there are many people in the government who believe that a child’s rights are paramount. That’s why the majority of states don’t have laws restricting the age at which a child can buy a gun. That’s right, if you live in California, Maine or dozens of other states, you can take your nephew to a gun shop and he can buy his very own gun for his fifth birthday. Isn’t that sweet?

You know what, you don’t even actually need to be there. Just let him walk down to the corner gun shop and buy whichever gun he wants. The store clerk will be happy to help him.

Just make sure he doesn’t stop by GameStop on the way back to try and pick up a copy of Injustice 2, that’s a game for adults only. Not that you actually have to worry about that, a game store employee would never give a small child something as dangerous as a mature game. That would be barbaric and illegal.

I, for one, look forward to a future where kids can’t play mature games or watch adult movies. Once those two things become a reality, we’ll finally be able to live in a Utopian time, free from violence and worry.
