NA LCS Preview – Top Teams Go Head to Head

by | Jan 26, 2018 | Esports, Esports section, Videogames

This week, the top ranking teams are going head to head while the small fry duke it out. In just the first day, Cloud9, Echo Fox, 100 Thieves, and Team Liquid will face off while teams like FlyQuest and TSM struggle to remain relevant. But if there is only one game you can watch, make it the 100 Thieves vs Team Liquid

100 thieves vs team liquid

There are four teams with 2-0 records right now, but the two that look the strongest are 100 Thieves and Team Liquid. 100’s decisive and aggressive shot-calling helped take three Barons against OpTic and absolutely decimated CLG, largely due to Aphromoo’s leadership. Conversely, Team Liquid have been on a streak of destruction with Doublelift and Olleh proving an unstoppable force even as the rest of their team plays superbly.

What to Expect:
We are guessing this one goes TL’s way. Aphromoo has at times been the best support in NA, but Olleh’s last two games have shown he is one of the best in the world. It’s pretty unlikely 100’s bot lane will be able to standup to TL’s – unless coach Prolly makes some wise calls in banning, like for Doublelift’s Tristana. However, TL’s victories have mostly been in micro plays than in macro plays, so if they win, it will probably be on aggressive ganks and suppressing members of 100. If 100 manages a win, it will be through strategy and map play.

The most popular team in the NA LCS was thoroughly humiliated last week. TSM has never gone 0-2 to start a season, and doing it to the ADC they kicked off their team all while losing a $15,000 bet has got to be hard on their spirits. OpTic will either be their chance at redemption, or one more defeat among many. Despite their record, OpTic went toe-to-toe with both 100 and TL, meaning they might continue TSMs unfortunate streak.

What to Expect:
OpTic are probably going to take this one. Their last two matches were against TL and 100, and OpTic played remarkably well against the two strongest teams, showing a combination of micro and macro level skill that almost saw them to victory. Power of Evil is also the mastermind behind Misfits crushing defeats of SKT, so while he probably won’t pull any crazy comps out yet, he is one to watch out for. If TSM does well or takes the game, it will almost certainly be from Bjergsen or Hauntzer, as their three new additions to the team have showed little to no synergy with the rest of the team.

And if you don’t have time for a full game, you have to at least check the highlights for this match. C9 has showed good macro play but some weak laning. Meanwhile, Echofox, as Jatt famously called them, are the ‘cryptocurrency’ of teams right now. Their roster makes little sense, and for now, it seems to be held together by the sheer brute force of Huni in the top, and against new comer Licorice, it could be a slaughter. If C9 can pull this off, it will be due to Jensen or Sneaky.
