Wonderstrom trio from Avatar, Riot, Uncharted are Making a Show/Game

Before you ask, the answer is Avatar: The Last Airbender , not that other one we don’t talk about, and the project is an animated series and game released in the same universe. We’ve seen crossovers before, such as Johnny Depp’s Secret World project, shows that are turned into games or the other way around, but they have always floundered and failed under poor direction and execution. The two formats simply don’t go well together, but Wonderstorm may have just figured out how to do it right, and it’s in the team behind the project.

Wonderstorm

The founders behind Wonderstorm

The newly formed company, Wonderstorm was founded by three veterans: Aaron Ehasz, who served as the head writer for Avatar, Justin Richmond, who was a designer on Uncharted 2 and director on Uncharted 3, and Justin Santistevan, who was a head of finance for four years at Riot. That makes Wonderstorm a small but incredibly stacked company. All of the properties the founders hail from are regarded as titans – Avatar for its writing and animation, Uncharted for its cinematics and fun, and Riot for its longevity and domination in the field. All of that combined creates a trio that has a better chance of making this series/video game crossover work.

The only current problem is how little is known about the project. We do know that Wonderstorm is working with Netflix on the animated series, which is a plus when looking at other Netflix originals like House of Cards and Stranger Things. We also know that the goal all along has been to create an animated series concurrently with a AAA quality game set in the same world. As for the world, the story or even the genre… we are pretty sure it will have dragons, mountains, and probably a forest. That is, unfortunately, about all there is now. We can field some guesses, though.

An RPG or game with heavy RPG elements would lend itself best to a show crossover, letting the players explore the continuity and legacy that the show establishes. This is also likely being that shows are often far more on the conversation side than the fighting side, so a game that best capitalizes on that is the text-heavy format of role playing. But, until we know more, these are all just guesses. So the fans will have to wait just like us for more details.
