Super Mario Odyssey is selling better than any Super Mario game before. Just last week Nintendo announced that the game had sold a whopping 2 million copies within its first few days on the market, including 1.1 million copies sold in the U.S. alone. Now the game is breaking even more records.

Nintendo revealed in a Twitter post that Odyssey is officially the fastest-selling Super Mario game ever in the U.S..

The sales explosion is incredible, but not unexpected. Super Mario Odyssey was arguably the most anticipated game of the year and has since become the highest-rated.

Nintendo isn’t being shy about their accomplishments either. In their most recent press release, the company pointed out that Odyssey “currently has a critical review average of 97 [on Metacritic], with 43 perfect scores. This makes Super Mario Odyssey the best-reviewed game on Metacritic for any system of the last three years, tied only with Nintendo Switch launch game The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.” 

The Switch has been an undeniable triumph for Nintendo since it’s launch, so much so that a Sony exec recently acknowledged the threat it poses to the PlayStation 4. It’s no longer a matter of whether or not the Switch will be a success. The question now is how many more records it will break along the way.

Nintendo has already said they’ve increased supplies of the Switch to meet the expected high-demand of the holidays and it’ll still likely to be sold out in most places. In total, over 2.6 million Switch consoles have been sold in the U.S. thus far. That means that on average, just under half of all Switch owners in the U.S. already own Super Mario Odyssey.
