This Weeks Headlines

Wei-jun “Vasilii” Li, a professional League of Legends player for the LPL team NewBee, assaulted his girlfriend on a Twitch livestream. Following the attack, his girlfriend subsequently called the police and had him arrested, all while his camera continued to stream. The primary clip circulating is nine minutes long, and it starts almost immediately before Li begins yelling and destroying his apartment. After the camera has fallen to the floor, Li’s girlfriend can be heard screaming as he attacks her.

The Kinect is dead. According to a recent report, Microsoft has officially stopped manufacturing the Xbox accessory.

Kinect has been on its last leg for a few years now, so it’s easy to forget that the device was actually a blistering success when it first launched.  It was the fastest-selling consumer product in 2011 and has sold approximately 35 million units since its debut, with a large portions of the sales coming in 2011 and 2012.

The dates for Call of Duty World League 2018 have been revealed. The extensive tournament begins with the launch of Call of Duty: WW2 on November 3. It will include a prize pool of $4.2 million and is open to just about anyone who plays the game.

Players around the world compete daily to earn CWL Pro Points. These points, 35 of which are available per player per day, earn players a spot on the CWL ladder. That ladder is used to rank teams for MLG GameBattles 2K and other major tournaments where prize money and additional pro points are on the line.

The Pro League, which will start on January 23, is home to 16 of the world’s top teams. Like League of Legends, the Pro League is divided into two stages, one in the Spring and one in the Summer. Approximately $1.4 million will be up for grabs throughout the two stages, including their playoffs.

All of this leads up to the Call of Duty World League Championship 2018. The single event, which is slated for August and will feature the top 32 teams in the world, has a prize pool of $1.5 million making it one of the largest esports events of the year.

Moderators and users alike left NeoGAF in a mass exodus following the news of a sexual harassment scandal involving the site’s owner.

As a part of the growing movement under the rallying cry #MeToo, film maker Ima Leupp alleged in a Facebook post that the owner of NeoGAF, Tyler “Evilore” Malka, sexually harassed her after a night of drinking. Though details are spotty, and Leupp has taken down the original post, it has already spread far across the internet and resulted in much of NeoGAF turning against Malka.

While details of this particular account are very back and forth, as reported by Vice email communications to both parties, Malka has had a troubled history with NeoGAF, some of it involving statements he has made about women or about his interactions with them, as outlined in numerous screenshots found on his Encyclopedia Drmatica page. Regardless of his involvement, irreparable damage has already been done to the NeoGAF community.
