On the heels of the news that The Escapist has laid off all staff, a second gaming community was struck a massive blow as moderators and users alike have left the site in mass exodus following news of a sexual harassment scandal involving the owner.

As a part of the growing movement under the rallying cry #MeToo, film maker Ima Leupp  alleged in a Facebook post that the owner of NeoGAF, Tyler “Evilore” Malka, sexually harassed her after a night of drinking. Though details are spotty, and Leupp has taken down the original post, it has already spread far across the internet and resulted in much of NeoGAF turning against Malka.

While details of this particular account are very back and forth, as reported by Vice email communications to both parties, Malka has had a troubled history with NeoGAF, some of it involving statements he has made about women or about his interactions with them, as outlined in numerous screenshots found on his Encyclopedia Drmatica page. Regardless of his involvement, irreparable damage has already been done to the NeoGAF community.

NeoGAF has often been a source for information within the gaming community and particularly in smaller pockets of the internet. The forums helped draw attention to a small scandal when publisher 2K pressured a small site to take down a negative review. From there, the news spread to Reddit and forced a response from both parties. The community has often operated in this way, as a smaller collective that detailed and examined issues that larger sites have shied away from. As of now, there is no news as to where the community will go, or if they have any plans to return to NeoGAF, but things don’t look good for the veteran site.
