Call of Duty World League 2018 Dates Revealed

by | Oct 26, 2017 | Esports, Esports section, Videogames

The dates for Call of Duty World League 2018 have been revealed. The extensive tournament begins with the launch of Call of Duty: WW2 on November 3. It will include a prize pool of $4.2 million and is open to just about anyone who plays the game.

Unlike LoLCS:GO and other major esports, the Call of Duty World League (CWL) isn’t so much a single league as it is a series of tournament with a league in the middle. Players around the world compete to earn CWL Pro Points. These points, 35 of which are available per player per day, earn players a spot on the CWL ladder. That ladder is used to rank teams for MLG GameBattles 2K and other major tournaments where prize money and additional pro points are on the line.

Elite players won’t have to wait long to get in on the action, the first MLG 2K tournament of the season is slated for November 12. Each time a team places first in one of these tournaments, several of which occur throughout the CWL season, the winning team is awarded an addition 2,000 CWL Pro Points.

Points in the earlier tournaments are crucial as they’re one way for teams to qualify for the CWL Pro League.

The Pro League, which will start on January 23, is home to 16 of the world’s top teams. Like League of Legends, the Pro League is divided into two stages, one in the Spring and one in the Summer. Approximately $1.4 million will be up for grabs throughout the two stages, including their playoffs.

Also occurring throughout the year will be the six CWL international events, the first of which is scheduled for Dallas on December 8-10. Subsequent events will take place in New Orleans in January and in Atlanta in March. The other three venues and dates are to be announced at the Dallas event in December.

All of this leads up to the Call of Duty World League Championship 2018. The single event, which is slated for August and will feature the top 32 teams in the world, has a prize pool of $1.5 million making it one of the largest esports events of the year.

While the majority of this will sound familiar to those who followed the League last year, there is one big change in store. This year there will be an amateur league called the CWL National Circuit. Though all the details for the CWL NC have not yet been revealed, we do know that it will act as a sort of bridge for amateurs with high aspirations and skills who are looking to go pro. We’ll keep you updated as we learn more about it.

This is the first time in nearly a decade that the Call of Duty series is going back to WWII. It will be interesting to see how and if the change in locations and dynamics affects the pros and amateurs who are so used to the modern and futuristic COD games of late.
