How the NA LCS Teams Prepared for Worlds

by | Sep 25, 2017 | Esports, Esports section, Videogames

Before heading to Worlds, many of the international competitors stopped off in Korea for bootcamp, training, and scrims. Korea has long been a hub for bootcamps in League of Legends, but many of these teams used the opportunity of being so close to test the Korean meta. Thanks to some Reddit wizards, we’ve had a chance to see how the North American teams did before the start of Worlds.

The bottom lane duos for each team put in some serious time. While in Korea, C9’s duo in Smoothie and Sneaky knocked out 50 games with a win ratio of 53% and 65%. Immortals Biofrost and Codysun put in about 90 games (the highest of any team), with a win ratio of 62% and 64%. Meanwhile, TSM’s Biofrost and Doublelift put in 70 games with an incredible 68% and 70% win ratio respectively.

All of this is to say that the rest of the teams’ members either haven’t been tracked down, or have deactivated their accounts, so clearly all three NA LCS team coaches think there is huge value in making sure their bot lanes are ready for the Korean metas and have been having them scrim accordingly.

Pobelter, Immortals Worlds 2017

However, it’s worth mentioning that of all the teams, Immortals put in the most time. Though their duo lane had a slightly lower win rate than TSM, it is IMT’s mid-laner that’s the real star. Pobelter put in a staggering 120 games with a 68% win rate, and he is the only member of any NA LCS team to have broken into Challenger in Korea in such a short period of time.

It’s hard to get a read on the minds of the coaches from just scrim matches – this could indicate that Immortals coach is putting high value in their mid laner, or it could just be that Pobelter has taken this challenge on himself, pushing himself harder than any other player in North America.

It’s also worth noting that Pobelter has put in 10 games on LeBlanc with a 100% win ratio – maybe he is planning on taking on the infamous Faker himself and leading his team to victory with the top player’s favorite champion. We’ll just have to see if all this training has paid off.
