Games from the Last 20 Years That Need to Be Re-Released on Modern Systems

Do you ever find yourself wanting to play a game from not so long ago, one that just doesn’t have a modern day equivalent? And inevitably you don’t get a chance to play it because it’s either too much work to dig out an old console or you simply don’t have it anymore. That’s what we’re talking about here.

It’s not just great older games. Sure, it’d be awesome to be able to play Ocarina of Time on the Switch, but we have Breath of the Wild to serve as a worthy substitute. Like StarFox 64 for the Wii U the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy for PS4, the five games on this list might not be the best games of all time, but they’re ones that would satisfy that uniquely unquenchable gaming craving.

GoldenEye 007

GoldenEye 007

GoldenEye was an incredible game. Its multiplayer was a mix of pure fun and pure frustration. It epitomized everything that was great about playing PvP locally with friends. They could change literally nothing about this game and it would still be incredibly fun as a modern port. Plus, it’s emphasis on fun, yet competitive multiplayer makes it the perfect game for Nintendo’s vision of the Switch.

The game would sell like hotcakes, so there’s that too.

SSX Tricky/On Tour

Steep wasn’t that great and the 2012 reboot of SSX was pretty bad. What we need is a remaster of SSX Tricky or SSX On Tour. They had cool soundtracks and were nothing but fun. The kind of games that you would play all weekend, forget about and then play all weekend again six months later when your friends come over.

Jak 3

Jak 4

This one comes a bit out of left field. The Jak & Daxter series was kind of all over the map. The first game was pretty much just a different Banjo-Kazooie and by the time Jak 3 came out, the series had morphed into Banjo-Kazooie meets GTA. If the latest Ratchet & Clank game was any good, we probably would have left this one off the list, but it wasn’t, and now we’re left with a hole in our hearts that only these types of games could fill.

NBA Jam/NFL Blitz

Both NBA Jam and NFL Blitz worked because of their utter insanity. The opportunity to slam your least favorite teams to the ground in Blitz was wildly satisfying. Somewhat recent reboots of both franchises have been overwhelming disappointing. All we want are the same games, slightly remastered, and updated with modern teams and players, is that too much to ask for? And if you could throw in a FIFA Jam/Blitz while you’re at, that’d be great.

Tony Hawk’s Underground

THU 2

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 was one of the worst games ever made. Everything about it was a massive horrible. Everything. We don’t need a Pro Skater 6 to make up for it, all we need is a re-release of either Tony Hawk’s Underground or American Wasteland. Keep the soundtracks and the absurd physics, update the graphics if you want, but keep the game ridiculous and fun. It’s as simple as that.
