Since 2010, TotalBiscuit – John Bain’s YouTube persona – has been a voice for the gaming community in a way that few, if any, have been. His podcast, the Co-Optional, has over 200 episodes and routinely featured streamers, YouTubers, and gaming personalities. His frequent cohosts at the Co-Optional were Jesse Cox, of Good Game fame, and the ever popular Dodger. But before the Co-Optional, TotalBiscuit grew to prominence by championing the little guys.
TotalBiscuit frequently called out major game studios for unethical practices. He was considered one of the voices for the community and a consumer advocate, drawing over two million subscribers to his channel where he would talk about many of the things that the rest of the gaming industry was politely avoiding. He was also prominently known for promoting and championing indie games, doing what he could with his platform to promote any piece of quality gaming that crossed his plate.
Even after being diagnosed with cancer in 2014, he continued to be a massive force for the community with Youtubers like Ethan Klein praising his perseverance and strength. In that time, he still produced an amazing amount of videos and content, continuing to stand up for the community he believed in and promote those that deserved it. Just three weeks ago, his Youtube was still posting episodes of the Co-Optional – and he was still hosting it. His dedication and love for gaming was unparalleled, and his wife shared a poignant moment that showed his love even near the end.
Do you know what’s strange but kind of lovely? During the hepatic coma he was slipping into several hours before passing, TB was still reviewing and talking about @FortniteGame in his sleep.
