Are Twitch and Epic Games Pulling Ninja’s Strings?

Something funny has been happening on Twitch. First it was Ninja’s insane rise to popularity, growing his average users from 10k to over 100k in just 3 months. Next, there was the realization from numerous streamers that they were getting Twitch Prime subscriptions from users that were offline or freshly made accounts. Then, perhaps the oddest thing happened.

The PS Plus and Xbox Live free games for April have been announced and finally Xbox owners have a reason to celebrate. March was a month of exaltation for PlayStation owners as they feasted on Bloodborne, Ratchet & Clank and more, all while Xbox owners tried to satisfy themselves with the likes of Brave: The Video Game

This month, the tides have turned and PlayStation owners are the ones left wanting more. Xbox has Assassin’s Creed Syndicate and Dead Space 2 as its marquee free games for April and PlayStation’s big titles are Mad Max and Trackmania Turbo. Microsoft’s April offerings might not beat what Sony offered last month, but it’s certainly the best lineup we’ve seen from them this year.

Pokémon Go has come a long ways since those first days of everyone running around excitedly chucking Pokéballs at anything that moved. The hysteria over the game has dissipated, but it’s now a much better game than it was over a year ago.

From quests and enhancements to the gym battle system, to a plethora of new Pokémon, the game has grown tremendously from what it once was. That trend continues with Pokémon Go’s latest update. The game’s research update, which went live this week, brings something that fans have been asking for since the beginning, a story mode.

Both Ubisoft and Square Enix announced the creation of new studios this month and for Ubisoft, it was a double-feature. The company, who just recently bought back its independence, announced two new international studios.

Echo Fox didn’t just beat Team Liquid the last time they met, they beat them by putting a Yassuo in the top lane. It doesn’t get much more humiliating than that. It didn’t help that Liquid simply didn’t do their part in trying to lock him down. With Huni, he is either going to support Echo Fox on champs like Gangplank, or he is going to carry them. He is simply a huge threat that has to be properly strategized against. Since they last met, Liquid has shored up their other lanes and there might be much more of a competition this time around.

Over 1 Million People Watch 100 Streamers Play Fortnite

A Spanish-speaking streamer named elrubius coordinated a stream with 100 of the top Spanish-speaking Fortnite players and over a million people tuned in to watch it live. Since then, over 12.5 million people have watched the video on YouTube

The stream nearly doubled the previous streaming record, which was set by Ninja and Drake just a week ago, and that’s only counting elrubius’ channel. It seems like every week we’re reminded of the fact that Fortnite is unprecedentedly popular. Who knows, maybe next week Obama and Ronaldo will stream together and we’ll see a new record set.
