Ninja Announces Charity Tournament at New Luxor Esports Arena
Ninja Announces Charity Tournament at New Luxor Esports Arena
Allied Esports – the group behind many of the esports arenas scattered across California – has been teasing about their new arena at Las Vegas’s Luxor casino for some time. The arena premiered with Rocket League matches and SMITE teams facing off against one another as well as Pegboards Nerds heading up a live music event. But the event many were waiting for was that Ninja – the streamer taking Twitch and the world by storm – had a special announcement to make. Well, we finally found out what that is. Ninja has announced a 10 game Fortnite event to be held at Luxor’s arena on April 21st.

According to Ninja, and Esports Arena Vegas, the event will feature 10 games back-to-back with each game expecting to fill to its 100 person capacity. That means that if each game features new players, nearly 1000 people will be entering to compete against the streamer who is quickly becoming known as the best Fortnite: Battle Royale player in the world. Each match will have a $2,500 reward. If Ninja wins, it goes to a charity of his choice. If someone else wins, they cash in. To spice it up, they have also announced that every time Ninja wins, the prize goes up by the same value. So, if Ninja wins the first 9 games, the final game will be worth $25,000.
Ninja gained his biggest fame in only the last few months of 2018. In 2017, his viewer count saw its first ascension towards what it would become today. He started hitting peak numbers of 20,000 concurrent viewers, something only the top streamers are capable of, and this number quickly increased in the early weeks of 2018. By February, his numbers had doubled. He started consistently pulling in viewers in the 40,000 range, and by the end of February, he averaged 40,000. After an insane surge in viewership, that put his peak stream at over 600,000 streams, he has now leveled off at around 100,000 – still far more than any other streamer in the world.
His success has been partly attributed to Fortnite: Battle Royale’s own journey to stardom. The game premiered against PUBG, the only other real competitor in the Battle Royale genre, but it quickly overtook PUBG to become the number one Battle Royale. Even just days ago, the release of their mobile app had already made over $1 million in just the first 72 hours of going live.
Ninja’s recent announcement puts Fortnite on better footing to look into esports, but it also puts Ninja in an even stronger position within the professional gaming community, not just the streaming community.
More details are expected to be revealed as we get closer to the April 21st tournament.
