We came up with a quick list of five of the developers or publishers who we’d most like to see take over the Star Wars franchise (Spoiler: Activision didn’t make the cut).
First up and in no particular order is CD Projekt Red. The Witcher series is over and Cyberpunk 2077 should either be coming out soon or not at all, so this might be the perfect time for Red to takeover Star Wars. Of course, the game would be open-world and would likely include playing some sort of card game at the Cantina. The downside is that it would probably take them at least five years to develop the game and Star Wars Episode XIII might be out by then.
Next up is Obsidian, the studio that brought you South Park: Stick of Truth, Fallout: New Vegas and of course, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II. Why Obsidian? Because we so badly want to play Kotor III and who better to make it than the ones who made one of the best Star Wars games to date.
Third on the list is Rockstar. Red Dead Redemption 2 is debuting later this year and we haven’t heard anything about a new GTA, so we’re going to assume that Rockstar has plenty of time on their hands. In this game, we imagine that you play a bounty hunter (but not a Fett), who is only peripherally involved in the core events of the Star Wars universe. You help out the Rebellion a bit, assassinate a few guys for the Empire, anything to make a quick buck.
If not Rockstar, then maybe Bethesda. This Star Wars game would be as expansive as Skyrim, as gritty as Fallout and as badass as Wolfenstein. Maybe the story revolves around Obi-Wan and all of the insane adventures he surely had that we never got a chance to see. We’re not sure. All we know is that a Bethesda Star Wars game might be the most mind-boggling thing of all time.
