Forbes’ 30 Under 30 List Paints A Bright Future for the Gaming Industry

by | Nov 14, 2017 | Indie, News, News Section, Videogames

Forbes’ 30 Under 30 celebrates industries from science to fashion and everything in-between. This year the gaming category is more diverse and encompassing than ever before. With investors, professional gamers, developers, art directors, writers, a grandmaster and more, the 30 Under 30 for gaming paints a bright future for the gaming industry.

Among the most notable names in the bunch are Vernon Shaw and Leighton Gray, both writers for Game Grumps and creators of the game Dream Daddy. Then there’s Twitch Partnerships Associate Sue “Smix” Lee, who can be regularly seen hosting major tournaments around the globe. Gamers will also likely recognize YouTuber Mark “Markiplier” Fischbach and streamer Tucker “iijeriichoii” Boner, two of the biggest names in gaming and esports entertainment.

Writer, voice actor and YouTube star Ashly Burch also made the list alongside two professional gamers, EVO 2017 Champion Saleem Young and TSM’s Søren Bjerg

“Playing mid-lane on Team SoloMid, “Bjergsen” is widely considered the best League of Legends player in North America and one of the best in the world. Since joining TSM in 2013, Bjerg has taken his team to every NALCS finals – winning five – and every World Championship.”

Not everyone on Forbes’ list is recognizable though. Among the most influential individuals whom you may not have heard is Stanislav Vishnevskiy, the cofounder of Discord. According to Forbe’s Vishnevskiy “helped conceive of, design and create the platform with cofounder and CEO Jason Citron. Discord is currently valued at $770 million.”

Then there’s investor Guzman Díaz who “has worked on deals for companies including Roblox, Super Evil Megacorp, FACEIT and Discord, and sits on the board of several of those companies.”

Riot’s Technical Product Manager, Caitlin Banford, also made the list. She’s recently lead an effort to overhaul the company’s testing environments and make other changes that have lead to player engagement increasing “by orders of magnitude.”

CLG founder George Georgallidis also made it into this year’s 30 Under 30, as did Twitch’s Head of North America Partnerships and Development, Anele Andeshmand and Telltale’s Season Lead Writer, Eric Stripe.
