Sony Bringing Games to Switch with New Publishing Label
Sony Bringing Games to Switch with New Publishing Label
Sony recently announced their new “Unties” label, which it will use to publish mostly indie and small titles to the PS4, Switch and PC.
To start with, we’re not exactly sure where the name comes from. It could be that something was lost in translation or maybe this label is meant to untie the bonds that has kept Sony in its own lane for so long. To be honest, we really don’t know and it seems like most of the gaming community is in the same boat.
Unties also won’t be operating under the Sony Interactive Entertainment label. Instead, it’ll be included in the Sony Music Entertainment branch of the company.
Moving on from the oddities of the announcement, the new publishing label is already set up to release its first game. Tiny Metal was first teased a while back and now it’ll officially become the first game published under Sony’s new label. The game is a revival of an old Japanese arcade game.
Outfight the enemy with your own army of foot soldiers, tanks, helicopters, tactical vehicles, and fighter jets. Capture rival territories and extend your military power over the sprawling map of Zipang. Follow the gripping story of Nathan Gries and answer for yourself what is, and what isn’t, worth fighting for.
Tiny Metal is slated to arrive sometime this fall.
After that, Unties will likely turn its attention to the next few games on its docket. Last Standard and Merkava Avalanche are both slated to release under the label, though no release dates have been announced for either game.
The more interesting question is what this means for Sony in the long run. They’ve been so adamantly against cross-play for years now, despite both Microsoft’s and Nintendo’s willingness. Is this a turning point for the company or just another name to add to its resume?
