After a pretty hot summer, October’s free games for Xbox and PlayStation owners might feel like a bit of a let down, with one major exception. Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain is the big marquee game for PlayStation Plus this month. If you haven’t played it, it’s one of the best game’s of the last decade and as close to a must-play as you get, especially when it’s free. Gone Home is the big game for Xbox Gold members in October, but it hardly matches up to Phantom Pain or last month’s main Gold game, Forza Motorsport 5.

Gone Home: Console Edition

Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain

Monster Jam: Battlegrounds

Sky Force Anniversary is a re-creation of a near-perfect, air-based shoot ’em up where players’ goal is to save the world from evil General Mantis. To do so, players will have to upgrade their ship with devastating power-ups, fight gargantuan bosses and blow up a ton of nasty enemies, including choppers, fighters, tanks and turrets.
