Indiecade celebrates its 10th anniversary

by | Sep 21, 2017 | Indie, News, News Section, Videogames

Indiecade is celebrating its 10 year anniversary in Little Tokyo, Downtown Los Angeles. Since its first year, Indiecade has grown in size and impact as indie games have slowly taken more of the market in gaming. Previous years have seen booths from major players like Sony and Nintendo but also the starting point for powerhouse indie titles like Shovel Knight.

One of the things Indiecade is most well-known for is its events. In addition to a slew of games – over 75 of them according to the site – it has over 10 hours of multiplayer and competitive gaming and outdoor night games. On the developer side, there are also Q&As, panels, conferences and workshops designed to help developers learn the industry better or for interested parties to get a foot in the door.

It also gives insight into the international gaming scene – both what other countries are exploring in gaming as well as the different design aesthetics of those regions.

Butt Cop Indiecade

Yes, this is a game. Honestly.

We may have also forgotten to mention that Indiecade fully embraces the weird side of gaming. For instance, the image above is an actual game that is called “Pounded In The Butt By The Handsome Living Video Game Manifestation of the Life and Works of Dr. Chuck Tingle”. But for every bizarre 80s themed game, of which there are many this year, there are also several rather sincere, niche games, such as Dream Daddy: A Dad Dating Simulator.

Dream Daddy debuted earlier this year and made splashes for its boldness and quality as a gay dating sim. Dream Daddy is also interesting because it was created by the Youtube group The Game Grumps. It marks the first time a gaming Youtuber has attempted to make a game. Although this makes it unique at Indiecade, it is just one of many games there pushing the boundaries and challenging normal expectations.

The Indiecade festival will run from Oct. 5-8. Tickets are available now.
