PlayStation VR Got a Bit Cheaper

Sony recently announced a new PlayStation VR bundle that includes both the headset and the PlayStation Camera for $399 USD. The company also announced that it will be dropping the price of its PlayStation VR Worlds bundle. The ‘Worlds’ bundle was previously priced at $499, but as of Sept. 1st, the price will be $50 dollars cheaper at $449. The new PSVR bundle, the one including both the headset and the camera, is essentially replacing the old base bundle, which included only the headset. The fact that the necessary camera was sold separately to begin with was a sticking point that baffled both consumers and analysts.

eSports come to YouTube Red with ‘Good Game’

The concept for Good Game revolves around two friends (the Game Grumps) trying toclimb the rungs of the eSport world. If it doesn’t fall into the usual tropes of mocking ‘anti-social’ gamers, then the content actually looks promising. Plus, the executive produce is Dan Harmon, creator of Rick and Morty, which is something almost anyone can get behind.

The first episode premiered on Wednesday and you can check it out in the video above.

Gaming Adjacent: What is Google’s ARCore?

Google’s ARCore is the evolution of Project Tango, the augmented reality experiment that Google first launched way back in 2014. In a way, ARCore is a shift from experimental AR to the start of something much more practical and user-focused. According to them, one of the major differences between ARCore and Tango is the autonomy of ARCore. Unlike Tango, ARCore “works without any additional hardware, which means it can scale across the Android ecosystem.” This means a significantly lower barrier to entry for both users and developers, which should lead to a greater rate of adoption. ARCore works with Java/OpenGL, Unity and Unreal and has three major components that Google is working hard to focus on—motion tracking, environmental understanding and light estimation. You can read all about these features and more in Google’s official post

Indie Spotlight

Best of Nindie: Nintendo’s Indie Showcase

Shovel Knight King of Cards

Nindie is Nintendo’s showcase event for indie games. The company showcased only 20 games in total at their Summer showcase, but the event was much more focused on quality than quantity.

One of the most talked about games was the hotly anticipated sequel, Shovel Knight: King of Cards. The game will be the “final adventure in the Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove saga.” It will feature four new worlds, 30 new courses and will launch in early 2018.

The other big ticket title was Super Meat Boy Forever, another sequel that fans have been begging for ever since the original came out nearly a decade ago. Unlike the original game, in Forever, levels get more challenging each time they’re beaten.

You can read the official titles and descriptions of the other 18 games featured at Nintendo’s Nindie event here.

The Coolest Thing on the Internet This Week

Hurricane Harvey Prep

Mario Kart VR

Hurricane Harvey has been a real bitch, to say the least. But one Redditor was prepared in a way that would only make sense to gamers. Did he stock up on food and clean water? We don’t know. Did he build an incredible inflatable dam to stop the water from getting in? Probably not. Did he gather up every hand-held Nintendo product since the Gameboy Advance SP? You betcha.  We don’t blame u/obrienthefourth for not including the Game Boy Advance and original Game Boy in his preparation. We’re guessing he just foresaw the eventual power outage and didn’t want to worry about finding one of those clip on light things when the time came. We hope you’re safe u/obrienthefourth, you and everyone else who had to endure that beast.
