LoL Semifinals Highlight – A Game of Throws
For much of the summer split, CLG was a dominating force. Aphromoo and Sixxay performed as a near unstoppable duo, Huhi outperformed and surprised mid laners left and right, and Darshan was used as a split pushing machine.
But this series saw their fall. Whether it was their new jungler, the jitters that they seemed to have in quarterfinals, or something else, CLG was off their usual game, and unfortunately for them, IMT was not.
The true star of IMT’s lineup came out in the drafting phase. CLG chose a combo they have had remarkable success with in Rakan Xayah, but a quick and intelligent counter to that is Alistar. When Rakan engages, Alistar meets him. When Rakan tries to dive a carry, Alistar smashes them into the air or head butts them away. It is the perfect counter against this duo, and Olleh played it remarkably.
This counter-pick led to a crushing lane victory against CLG and saved IMT many times in the incredibly close matches that came from CLG.
This is the moment that IMT screwed up. Though they would go on to win the game, IMT mistakenly sent Olleh to engage this fight rather than to react to the CLG engage. The result is Rakan immediately dives past Alistar, hard targets Pobelter, and the rest of CLG swarms in and decimates the entire IMT lineup.
It becomes very obvious that drafting correctly is paramount to success, but also that certain champions, even supports, can make or break a game. Luckily for IMT, they only made this mistake once, and the rest of the game played out in victory.
