Microsoft Delivered Everything We Wanted to Know About the Xbox One X at Gamescon
Microsoft’s Project Scorpio was teased for a long time before we finally got our first real look at the new console just a couple months ago. At this year’s E3, it’s code name was dropped and it’s official name, the Xbox One X, was revealed. Microsoft was still holding on to a few secrets though, secrets they finally let out at the year’s Gamescon.
First and foremost, Microsoft finally revealed when and where we could pre-order the new system. The when is now and the where is anywhere it’s available. From Amazon to the Microsoft Store, pre-orders went live just about everywhere on Sunday, and they sold out fast. The consoles will ship with a 1 TB hard drive, a wireless controller, an HDMI cable, and the usual one-month free Xbox Game Pass subscription and 14-day free Xbox Live Gold membership, all for $499.
The other exciting news was Microsoft’s announcement of a limited “Project Scorpio” edition of the console. The differences are purely cosmetic, but the green “Project Scorpio” brandished across the console and controller are pretty cool. Unfortunately, if you haven’t pre-ordered yours already, you’ll have a pretty hard time getting a hold of one. The limited edition console was is available for pre-order only and it’s sold-out across the board.
The other big news from Microsoft was the list of “enhanced” games for the One X. For most games, these enhancements will mean 4K and HDR support. And for everyone not planning on upgrading, every game will still be able to play on every version of the Xbox One. This is something that Microsoft has confirmed several times in the past, but it’s still nice to hear it reconfirmed.
