Fortnite Mobile Players Spend More Than $1 Million In Game’s First 72 Hours
Fortnite mobile is already wildly successful and it hasn’t even officially launched yet. The mobile game went live last week in an invite-only mode where you have to first sign up on the Fortnite website and then wait patiently for an official invitation.
According to Fortnite’s publisher, Epic Games, invites are being sent out “as the servers can handle more players.” Fortunately for anyone who wants to play, those invitations appear to be going out a pretty high volume.
In fact, there are so many people already playing Fortnite mobile that the game is already sitting at the top of the iOS charts. As if that weren’t enough, the free mobile game has already grossed more than $1.5 million in total. That’s nearly 28 times as much as its closest competitors.
According to data analyst company SensorTower, $1 million of that total revenue came in the game’s first 72 hours alone. And it’s important to keep in mind that Fortnite is still only available on iOS, which only holds about one third of the total mobile market share in the US. The game isn’t even scheduled for an Android release for at least the next few months.
SensorTower also has data on a few of the other major mobile releases from the past couple years. Two of the largest releases in recent memory are Pokemon Go and Clash Royale, each of which grossed about three times as much at launch as Fortnite did. However, when you factor in the fact that Fortnite mobile is only reaching about a third of the mobile market at most and is still under invite-only, Fortnite’s launch can certainly be considered at least as successful as those two games.
Fortnite mobile is just the latest ‘free’ game to prove that free doesn’t necessarily mean what it used to, but it just might find its spot at the top short-lived.
PUBG Mobile just launched yesterday and people are already downloading it in droves. The game has more than 100,000 downloads on Android in less than 24 hours and it’s getting rave reviews. In fact, the PUBG already has a higher rating on iOS than Fortnite.
You can sign up for Fortnite mobile invitations on the Epic Games website. PUBG Mobile can be downloaded now on either the iOS or Android marketplaces.
