Witcher II and Other Classic 360 Games Get One X Graphics Update

Four classic Xbox 360 games have gotten graphical enhancements for the Xbox One X Backwards Compatibility library. This brings the total number of graphically enhanced Xbox 360 games to 11.

For those who are nostalgic and looking to revisit old titles or for newcomers who want to try out these games for the first time, Crackdown, Fable Anniversary, Forza Horizon, and The Witcher II Assassins and Kings can now be purchased for the Xbox One X with enhanced graphics.

These four games are some of the most fun the 360 had to offer. With a third Crackdown game scheduled for release this spring, it’s the perfect time to revisit the original.

Meanwhile, Witcher II was one of the top RPGs of the last console generation, Forza Horizon no doubt still holds for racing fans and Fable games, with their many moral choices, always offer great replay value.

Of course, these four games are just the latest Xbox 360 titles to get a graphical revamp. Microsoft already has seven other games in the Backwards Compatibility library. Assassin’s Creed, Mirror’s Edge, Oblivion, Fallout 3, Gears of War 3, Halo 3, and Skate 3 have all received enhancements in the past six months. A full list of all the improved games can be found here.

What do graphical enhancements actually entail, though? The games will be played at a higher resolution with faster frame rates, there’s a higher pixel count, and improvements have been made to textures. The graphical enhancements for any of these games will be turned on automatically, but if the user wants to turn them off for some reason, this can be done manually in the menu. Without the enhancements turned on, the games will look like how they would play on either the Xbox One or the Xbox One S.

In the past, game companies have often been reluctant to include backwards compatibility in their consoles, but Microsoft seems to be embracing (and monetizing) the concept with the One X.

It’s good to see these classic titles getting some attention again, and with any luck, these 11 games are just the tip of the iceberg.
