PS Plus and Xbox Live Free Games for February

by | Feb 1, 2018 | News, News Section, Videogames

The free games for February are here and neither PS Plus subscribers nor Xbox fans get any real standout titles. Instead, each platform has a couple of fun games that should tide you over for the short month.

Sony’s one-two punch of Knack and RiME should satiate those who like puzzles and general joviality. Meanwhile, Microsoft’s offering of Assassin’s Creed Chronicles – India and the 360 classic Split/Second are at least better options than what they saddled us with last month.

You can see all of this month’s free console games below.

Xbox

Shadow Warrior tells the offbeat tale of Zilla Enterprise’s corporate shogun Lo Wang as he is ordered to acquire a legendary blade of limitless power by his deceitful employer. Betrayed and left for dead, Lo Wang learns of the blade’s connection to ancient gods from another realm preparing to push our world to the brink of destruction. Now the reluctant hero must become legend through a masterful combination of gun, blade, magic and wit to uncover the truth behind the demonic invasion and banish evil back into the darkness.

Embody Arbaaz in his quest for retribution through a colorful depiction of 19th century Colonial India in 2.5D stealth gameplay. […] Travel across an amazing 19th-century India and its legendary landmarks. Discover an exquisite depiction of Colonial India thanks to a palette of vibrant colors. Zip-line across the streets of Amritsar, hide in the shadows of the palace, and hunt legendary artifacts, following in the footsteps of Alexander the Great.

Split/Second is an intense arcade racing game set within the universe of a mega-budget, prime-time reality TV show. Contestants race to be the 1st across the finish line in a made-for-TV city built for destruction, with the ultimate goal of becoming the season champion. The city is rigged to blow and you’re in control of the action – bridges will fall, buildings will be reduced to clouds of dust and cars blown to pieces – devastating explosions will decimate your rivals and rip apart the track, creating new routes and challenging obstacles. Explosive stunts, demolition and balls-out racing thrills combine to create the ultimate high-octane racing experience! Buckle up…it’s about to get explosive out there!

Hey hey, come on over and have some fun with Crrrrrazy Taxi! Barrel through traffic packed streets, hurdle off parking garages, and Crazy Combo your way to Crazy Money in a wild frantic race to scare up the most fares. In Crazy Taxi, time is money, and only the Craziest Cabbies come out victorious.

PlayStation

A land of discovery stretches out before you. Explore the beautiful yet rugged world of RiME, a single-player puzzle adventure. In RiME, you play as a young boy who has awakened on a mysterious island after a torrential storm. You see wild animals, long-forgotten ruins and a massive tower that beckons you to come closer. Armed with your wits and a will to overcome—and the guidance of a helpful fox—you must explore the enigmatic island, reach the tower’s peak, and unlock its closely guarded secrets.

Mankind must turn to Knack, an unlikely hero, to protect them from a dangerous new threat. The unassuming Knack stands at a mere three feet tall, but thanks to the power of mysterious ancient relics, he can transform into a powerful brute or even a gigantic wrecking machine. Knack is mankind’s only hope for turning the tide against the invading goblin army, but trying to harness the true power of the relics could threaten to put the whole world at risk.

The legendary game, Spelunker, is back, pairing all-new levels and features with the technically challenging gameplay that made it famous. Evade enemies, unlock vaults and amass treasure as you wind deep below the surface of the earth. Death is the only reward for failure… are you up to the challenge?

Our favorite Undisputed God of the Universe, Chou-Chou, returns with her crew for a brand-new story revolving around the zodiac. Taking place immediately after the first game, you take control of the goddess Syrma, who meets Chou-Chou just after the end of the first game’s events. Syrma is out to stop an ancient threat to her world that has recently awakened. 9999 levels of maniacal mishaps and ethereal adventures await Syrma, her crew, and hordes of shampurus.

Inspired by early ’90s “cinematic platformers,’ Exile’s End plays out as an exploration-driven side-scrolling adventure through a massive mining complex on a moody, lonely alien world. The game offers a variety of diverse locations to explore and puzzles to solve with skilled platforming and clever usage of the game’s diverse weapon set. The game boasts contributions by legends of the 8 and 16-bit eras in Japan, including art and cutscenes from the team behind “Secret of Mana” and music from Keiji Yamagishi (“Ninja Gaiden NES”)!

With an impressive battle system that combines fast-paced action with strategic planning, and featuring robust character creation and customization options, Grand Kingdom is a Tactical RPG unlike any on the market today. After the fall of the once-prosperous Uldein Empire over one hundred years ago, the Four Great Nations now wage war to claim dominion over the Resonail continent.
