Fortnite: Battle Royale Getting Cosmetic Makeover to Become More ‘Badass’

Future updates to Fortnite: Battle Royale are going to bring a slew of new changes to the game. One of the biggest changes is likely to come in the cosmetics department.

In a recent state of development post about planned upgrades coming to the game, the developers behind Battle Royale made it clear that they want the game to look and feel more ‘badass.”

“Our initial version of gliders focused on texture changes (repaints). The next step is adding more unique detail, while still preserving the original mesh.

We don’t want to stop there though and understand that there is a desire for variations with strong personality, uniqueness, and a sense of cool and beautiful detail. Basically badass stuff :- )

We’re working on full remodels for gliders, pickaxes, and characters that achieve this vision; please keep checking the store for updates.”

In the ballooning battle royale genre, Fortnite has always stood out for its unique look. While PUBG, H1Z1 and others have a distinctly realistic and hardened look, Fornite has remained almost cartoonish. Now it looks as if the game will be falling more in line with others in its genre.

The first piece of concept art for the new look (pictured above), depicts a more rugged and militaristic style.

Cosmetics isn’t the only thing the development team discussed in their most recent update. A total rework of the inventory system and an overhaul to the shooting model are both currently underway. Team killing is also being addressed, as are social features, post-match stats and audio enhancements.

The game’s map will also be recieving a pretty sizable update in the near future. New points of interest are being added “to better fill in some of the empty spaces and introduce more gameplay variety.” One of those points of interest is a totally new city that appears to be nestled into one of the map’s more mountainous regions.

The post also touched on limited time modes, leaderboards and  stats, server performance optimizations and plenty of other upgrades that have been in the pipeline for some time now. You can read the entire State of Development post here.

One other thing of note were the couple sentences added to the bottom of the post.

“Your feedback is what allows us to improve the game and prioritize our efforts, and your enjoyment and support is what keeps us motivated to run at the pace we are! Thank you :- )

Our goal is to be transparent and accountable. We spend a lot time reading your comments and posts, so please let us know when we are not living up to our goal!”

Though it isn’t unusual for statements such as these to be added to the ends of posts like this, it was still nice to hear given the current turmoil with companies such as EA and Bungie. It’s good to know that Epic Games, whose dealt with their own share of PR nightmares, is at least somewhat in tune with the current sentiment in the gaming company.
