Physical Release For PUBG on Xbox One Confirmed

by | Oct 24, 2017 | News, News Section, Videogames, Xbox One

PUBG is coming to consoles in a physical way. It was revealed on Twitter that the game would be coming to the Xbox One in physical form as well as a digital download.

We’ve known since E3 that the popular PC game would debut on consoles as an Xbox One exclusive, but it wasn’t clear until now whether or not the game would be solely digital or not. The news of the games physical release reiterates the fact that Microsoft is betting heavily on its success. Most indie and smaller games don’t get physical releases simply because they cost a lot more.

Just creating a disc and the case it comes in is a pricey endeavor. When you include the costs of shipping games to stores and individuals, it’s understandable that so many games are digital exclusives these days.

It isn’t too much of a surprise that Microsoft is so heavily invested in the game. The Xbox One simply doesn’t have that many exclusives and PUBG is a prime opportunity for them to significantly bolster their exclusive roster.

Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox who has voiced his dislike for exclusive titles, has admitted that they’re heavily invested in working with Bluehole to build the best version of PUBG for the Xbox One.

The one major omission in all of this is a release schedule. Neither Xbox nor Bluehole has mentioned anything resembling a specific date. The best we’ve got to go on is vague promises that the game will be out by the end of the year.

The PC version of the PUBG is still in it’s Early Access phase and it’s tough to guess how much more Bluehole wants to put into it before launch. Countless bugs and annoyances have been wrinkled out over the past couple months and the game is getting better and better with each update. It’s perfectly playable right now, but it’s nice to know that the devs want everything to be completely polished and complete before they leave Early Access, even if that means playing catch-up with Fortnite.
