If you couldn’t have already guessed, South Park: The Fractured but Whole isn’t going to be steering away from controversy. This should come as no surprise to fans of the TV show. Matt Stone and Trey Parker, the creators of South Park and The Book of Morman, have always had a knack for stepping right over lines in the sand.  

In The Fractured but Whole, the game’s difficulty is decided by the skin color you choose for your character. The darker the character, the higher the difficulty level. But don’t worry, according to Cartman, skin color doesn’t “affect combat. Just every other aspect of your whole life.”

Of course, race is just the tip of the iceberg for South Park. In The Stick of Truth, you’re only option was to play as a boy. This time around, you can choose to play as either a boy or a girl. However, if you choose girl, things get a little complicated.

First of all, Mr. Mackey is very confused. According to Eurogamer, who recently had a chance to sit down with the game, Mackey calls your parents up to confirm that you are, in fact, a girl. “So the whole King and Stick of Truth thing, she was actually a girl the entire time?” he asks. Then it’s up to you to choose between a cisgender or transgender girl. You can watch the whole exchange in Eurogamer’s video.

This is sure to be just a taste of what The Fractured but Whole has in store for gamers, and we can’t wait to see the rest.
