Fast Travel Through the Week – the Best in Gaming

by | Aug 22, 2017 | News, News Section, Videogames, weekly

The end of summer is typically a pretty slow time for gamers. It’s all hype and anticipation, usually with little actual content. Lucky for us, this week is trying hard to break that mold. With the return of Madden, an exciting new indie thriller and a new map for Battlefield 1, there’s plenty to talk about this week.

Welcome to the fourth week of August.

Madden NFL 18 G.O.A.T. Edition (PS4, XONE)

Electronic Arts/Madden 18

Two versions of Madden are hitting the shelves this year. One is the regular old Madden, now running on the Frostbite engine, and the other is the G.O.A.T. edition, also running on Frostbite. G.O.A.T. comes out three days earlier than the standard edition and will give players a leg up right off the bat. Specifically, you’ll get an elite player, 2 MUT squad packs, 2,500 contracts, one Ultimate Team uniform pack and, you guessed it, a G.O.A.T. player. It’ll also cost you an extra $20 upfront. Other than that and Frostbite, expect the game to be pretty similar to Madden 17, for better or for worse.

The Escapists (PC, XBOX, PS4)

Via Steam

If you love teamwork, strategy and pixels, you’ll love The Escapists 2. You can read the game’s official summary below.

Risk it all to breakout from the toughest prisons in the world. Explore the biggest prisons yet, with multiple floors, roofs, vents and underground tunnels.
You’ll have to live by the prison rules, attending roll call, doing prison jobs and following strict routines; all the while secretly engineering your bid for freedom!
Your prison escape antics will take you from the frosty Fort Tundra, a train hurtling through the desert, and even to the final frontier!

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy (PS4)

Uncharted female

Naughty Dog/Uncharted

If you’re not excited for Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, you probably don’t own a PS4. The first standalone title for the Uncharted franchise, this game follows the story of Chloe Frazer as she works to “recover an ancient artifact and keep it out of the hands of a ruthless warmonger.” Fans of the series will also recognize Uncharted 4’s Nadine Ross as she helps Frazer along the way. The game isn’t full price at $39.99 and the early buzz has been positive to say the least.

A game with a few jump scares is one thing. A psychological horror title that has you delving into the fractured minds of the criminally insane? That’s a whole beast in itself.

>observer_ is the kind of game that will have you second guessing yourself every time you close your eyes. It’s a cyberpunk horror game from the creators of Layers of Fear. You play as an elite neural detective tasked with hacking into the “jagged minds of the insane.” You can read the whole summary of the game here.

Patches, Updates, and DLC

Battlefield 1: The Lupkow Pass Update

Battlefield 1 Lupkow

EA/DICE

The latest Battlefield 1 update brings one major change to the game, the addition of the all new Lupkow Pass map. It’s officially the first playable map from the upcoming “Name of the Tsar” expansion due out in a few weeks. The vertical map is based on the real Lupkow Pass, an infamous Eastern European location known for its icy river and treacherous landscape.

Along with the new map comes the usual series of general tweaks and weapons fixes you would expect.

No Mass Effect: Andromeda DLC or Patches

We’re going to do something unusual here and highlight a game which will no longer be receiving any updates or DLC.

Mass Effect: Andromeda has effectively been killed. It was announced just last week that update 1.10, would be the final update for the game. Furthermore, BioWare stated on their website that “There are no planned future patches for single-player or in-game story content.” Thus, the once-beloved franchise has met an unsanctimonious end.

New ‘Story Mode’ Difficulty for Horizon Zero Dawn

If you love Horizon Zero Dawn but get annoyed with how difficult it can be just to survive, this latest update is for you. According to Guerrilla Community Manager Jeroen Roding, the game’s new difficulty setting, Story, “boosts the player-inflicted damage and reduces the player-received damage considerably, making the combat encounters manageable for less experienced players.” This latest update comes on the heels of the 1.30 patch which introduced an ‘Ultra Hard’ difficulty into the game.
