PS4 5.0 Firmware in Beta
For those lucky enough to be accepted into the beta, the PS4 5.0 firmware update rolled out this week. Codenamed NOBUNAGA, the update had a few major changes in store for users.
Most notably was the new “Family” feature, which replaces the old account system. The other feature making a big splash is the ability for users to stream Twitch at at 1080p and 60fps, as long as they own a PS4 Pro.
Also in the update is the ability to toggle off pop-up notifications while you’re watching a movie or TV show, a feature that many users have been asking for. New system language additions, an improved tournaments bracket viewer, virtual surround sound on PS VR, messages improvements, broadcast feature updates and more are all coming with this update as well.
You can see all the details behind the new update over on the official PlayStation blog.
Crackdown 3 delayed to 2018
The latest game in the Crackdown series has been delayed once again. Microsoft confirmed this week that Crackdown 3‘s release date of Nov. 7, 2017 would be getting pushed back until at least spring 2018.
According to Microsoft Studios Publishing’s general manager, Shannon Loftis, the delay is to help ensure a quality product is released to fans at the time of launch. It’s always disappointing to hear that a game is being delayed, but given the onslaught of unpolished games rolling out these days, it’s probably a smart move for Microsoft to give their developers a little extra time. Still, we’ve already been waiting over three years for the game, let’s just hope it’ll be worth the wait.
Nintendo Switch Outsells PS4, Xbox One In US July Sales
According to the NPD Group, the Nintendo Switch was easily the best selling console for the month of July. Although that news really doesn’t come as much of a surprise, it’s still good to hear. The Switch was almost guaranteed to sell like hotcakes at launch. The real challenge was seeing how it would perform down the line.
With all sorts of new games just around the corner, including the hotly anticipated Splatoon 2, Nintendo will look to keep it’s winning-streak going through the last five months of the year.

Indie Spotlight
TOKYO 42 TRIES ITS HAND AT HOAX ADVERTISEMENT
As of this morning, Paul Kilduff-Taylor took time to explain the strategy behind the hoax. He explained that it was, yes, a stunt to try and get an indie game some attention, but he also framed it as a critique of the industry as a whole. His thoughts are that the media is only interested in sensationalism and drama. To Paul’s credit, he isn’t exactly wrong, but to the credit of the media, though Tokyo 42 has had great success in its niche of gamers, there is little to say or show about it that would catch the interest of most gamers.
The Coolest Thing on the Internet This Week
Mario Kart VR
Highlighted by Redditor Fizrock, Mario Kart VR looks like the stuff dreams are made of— or nightmares if you happen to find yourself on a VR Rainbow Road. A Japanese trailer for Mario Kart VR is available on YouTube and you can see the full version of the gif above here.
According to Redditor EnnexBe, this game is actually located in a place called VR Zone in Shinjuku, Japan. He even provided proof of him playing the game. He also said that “The coolest part is looking to the right as you line up right at the start of the race and seeing a GIANT Bowser seated next to you.” Sounds awesome EnnexBe, you lucky bastard.
