Nintendo News: Super Mario, Rocket League, Splatoon and More

by | Aug 23, 2017 | News, News Section, Videogames

Its been a big week for Nintendo. Their SNES Classics have already sold out everywhere, they dropped big news for Splatoon 2 and ARMs at Gamesconand we found out that they’re going to have some awesome exclusive cars in the Switch version of Rocket League. Plus there’s a brand new area in Super Mario Odyssey called Luncheon Kingdom. What more could you ask for?

We’ll start with Super Mario Odyssey. The game is already one of the most talked about titles in recent memory, and now Nintendo is just adding fuel to the fire. The company showed off a brand new area called Luncheon Kingdom at Gamescon. The video, which you can see above, details a landscape built around the idea of food. It’s more proof of just how diverse of a place Odyssey will be.

The Release date is only a couple months away at this point and Nintendo knows its fans are eager to get their hands on the game. You can probably expect a couple more teases between now and Oct. 27.

Nintendo’s software has never been the problem, it’s always been their hardware that they’ve had troubles with. This time it’s the SNES Classic that’s giving consumers headaches. Not because of any glitch or reported malfunction, but because people just can’t seem to get their hands on one. Pre-orders went live recently and sold-out almost immediately. This comes just a month after the Walmart snafu where the retailer began taking pre-orders well before they were supposed to.

Of course, Nintendo hardware is notorious for being difficult to attain. The Switch is still sold out in many places and you can bet it’ll be near impossible to find it come the holiday season. For everything Nintendo does right, you’d think they’d be better at estimating sales. Admittedly, maintaining a low supply could be part of their plan, but if it is, we wish they would come up with something a little less frustrating.

Earlier this year it was announced that Rocket League would be coming to the Switch and that it would be receiving cross-network support for Xbox One, Windows 10 and Steam (c’mon Sony). Now there’s even more information to get excited about. The Switch version of Rocket League will feature new cars based on Mario, Luigi and Samus. That’s right, you’ll be able to drive around a car based on Samus’ gunship from MetroidAll cars will also come with special rocket boosts as well. Plus there’ll be a series of different Mario and Luigi car toppers available. Best of all, all the cars will be available as free unlockables.

Rcoket League for Switch is slated for release this Holiday season.

Splatoon was a breakout star for Nintendo when it launched two years ago and they’ve been working hard to build on that success with Splatoon 2. The second installment in the franchise recently had two new maps announced just ahead of Gamescon.

You’ll be able to play both both Turf War and Ranked Battles in the new Manta Maria arena launching this weekend. The other new stage, Lost Outpost, has been abandoned due to rising tides. It became available as a Salmon Run stage just a few hours after being announced.

The last bit of news stemming from Nintendo involves ARMs, the fighting game that has taken the Switch community by storm. A new character, Lola Pop, will be joining the game in its next update. Pop is a street-performing clown who’ll bring a new arena with her as well. You can get a look at Pop and the new arena in the video below.  There’s no official date for the impending update, but expect it sometime soon.
